The story behind Talero
Why an expense tracker is named after a 16th-century silver coin.
In 1519, they started minting silver coins in Jáchymov, a small town in Bohemia (today's Czechia). The locals called it the Joachimsthaler, which quickly got shortened to Thaler, and locally Tolar.
Because the coins were high quality, they spread across Europe. Dutch merchants brought the daalder to the New World, and the English started calling it the dollar. A coin from a small Czech valley basically gave the name to the world's most famous currency.
Why we picked this name
We are building Talero here in Czechia, and this piece of history just clicked with us. It's a great story of something local, built with such quality that it ended up being used everywhere.
